The history of pottery in the Native American Culture
The first thing in making pottery is by gathering clay. In some pueblos they bring in the clay and lay it out in the sun for it to dry. Once the clay has been dried they put it into a washtub with enough water and the clay is left their so it can soak for several days and repeated until water is clear. After the clay is finally raw and clean they mash it with their fingers and mix it with water so it can pass through a sieve made of window screen. By sifing the clay it helps to remove rocks that may ruin the pottery. Then when it is ready its mixed with water, clay and tempering agents to form it like bread dough. Back then men didn't shape pottery. They would take a piece of clay and pat it into a tortilla shape. Its pressed into a shallow dish. Next they use a sandpaper, wet cloth and damp fingers to smooth the surface of the vessel. They apply slip after smoothing it and after each application of it, it's rubbed with a polishing stone. They start to decorate it by painting, impressing, carving or sgraffito. The last step is firing.

Pottery Reflection
The theme/title of this unit is pottery. I got started on this work by first drawing a side, top and front view of my animal. The media and skills I used throughout the unit is clay and skills I used was doing geometric shapes. I used them successfully because by doing geometric shape it made it easier to create the animal I choose. I found difficulty trying to attach the legs and head to the body of the animal. The element I used during the unit was form, shape and space. I used the element form throughout the whole pottery so it can look like a cat. I used shape in the head and legs and used space between the legs so the front and back legs weren't so close. The principles of design that I used during this unit was balance, and unity. I used balance in by making the animal able to stand up on its own. I used uity to unit the legs and head with the body. No, I didn't use any different compositional arrangements before producing the final work. The media my final work was produced in was clay. My work was 3 dimensional. I was happy with the final result because it turned out looking like an animal. Yes, I did enjoy the project because the project was more of a hand on thing and it was fun. None of my art skills improved during this project. New skills I learned was when doing pottery alwawys start out by drawing the top, front and side view not just the drawing of your animal. I think I could have made the eyes better to improve my work.

compare and contrast
In the first picture the drawing is drawn by Andre Derain and the second one is drawn by Thomas Cole. In the first drawing it shows fisherman fishing and two people watching them. The second picture shows a landscape with one side which you can see it looks like a storm is coming and the other side of it is bright and with peace. It was made in Collioure in 1905(first picture) and the second drawing was made in the view of Mount Holyoke in 1836. Both of them are a landscape. In the first one it is a expressionist because he uses brushstrokes to express himself. The second drawing is impressionist because it is a drawing that looks realistic, no brushstrokes and is flat/smooth and the painting is an art movements. They are both similar because they don't have a line of symmetry. Both of the drawings were made by using oil. The second drawings dimensions are 51 1/2 in by 76 in. The first one is 31 7/8 by 39 1/2 inches.

Human Presence among the trees
•Additive color- mixing of colored light, they are green, red, and blue
•Subtractive color- mixing of colored paints, pigments, inks and dyes, they are red blue and yellow
•Spectrum- colors of the rainbow arranged in their natural order, ROY G BIV
•Hues- one of the colors in the spectrum, have a circular order
•Primary colors- red, yellow and blue, they are the 3 pigment colors that can not be mixed or formed by any combination of other colors and all the other colors are derived from these 3 hues
•Secondary color- green, orange, and purple, colors that are formed by mixing the primary colors
•Tertiary color- yellow-orange, red-orange, red-purple, blue-purple, blue-green, and yellow-green, colors formed by mixing a secondary and primary color, that's why hue is a two word
•Analogous color- any three colors which are side by side on a 12 part color wheel such as yellow-green
•Opposite and complementary color- any 2 colors which are directly opposite each other such as red and green, red-purple
•Tint- color that is mixed with white
•Shade-color that is mixed with black
•Intensity- strength or value of a color
•Transparent- colors that you can see through
•Opaque- colors that you cannot see through
•Warm colors- to be visually and emotionally exciting
•Cool Colors- calming effect
•Tone- lightness or darkness of a color, used to create the 3d illusion
•Matt- creates a dull non-reflective surface
•Gloss- gives a brighter reflective finish
•Monochromatic- use of one color/shades in a single form
•Know how to use color as a symbol, color as light and color as emotion- Color as symbol is used to make a certain color represent something in a drawing because red is used to represent danger, anger violence when associated with fire and when associated with the heart it represents love and passion. Color as light represents the colors from the rainbow in order demonstrating that colors come from light. Color as emotion represents our feelings such as green represents envy and red represents rage.
Zentangle Zentangle to the rescue
The title of the unit was zentangle art. I got started in this unit by searching different zentangle patterns and drawing them in small boxes. The media and skills I used throughout the unit was a brown piece of paper and a sharpie and it was dry media. Some skills I used was practicing the zentangle patterns on paper before doing it on the brown paper. I used the media and skills well because by practicing the zentangle patterns on paper before the brown paper I didn't mess up doing the patterns in sharpie. I found some difficulty drawing some zentangle patterns. The art elements that I used throughout the unit was lines. I used lines when drawing the tree and in the zentangle patterns. The following principles I used was patterns and I used them throught the whole drawing. No, I didn't use any different compositional arrangements. The media that my final work was produced in dry media in a piece of brown paper. My work was two dimensional. Yes I was happy with the final result because I enjoyed doing it.I enjoyed the project because drawing zentangle patterns was relaxing and fun. None of my skills have improved during this project. New skills I've learned was to practice the patterns several of times before doing my final work.
Zentangle started when one day Maria was telling Rick what she experienced while drawing backgrounds patterns on a manuscript she was creating describing her freedom, feelings of timelessness, well being, and complete focus without thinking. Rick told her she was describing meditation and they wondered if they could create a simple system for others for a similar experience. What it is, is a fun relaxing and easy way to create pretty images. It is enjoyed all over the world and you can do Zen tangles anywhere.

Cave Painting Project Reflection
The title of the unit was Cave painting. I got started on this unit by watching a video, searching up different types of native symbols and then making a sketch. The media and skills I used throughout the unit was dry media and then doing it on the brown paper with charkol and pastel. I used the media and skills good by having symbols that I know the meaning to make a story and mixing in the charkol with other colors.I didn't find any difficulty in the art project. It was easy and fun. The type of elements i used during this unit was color, space, and line. I used lines when drawing the village, people, suns rays and the eagle. I used color throughout almost the whole drawing and used space by separating the drawings so they weren't so close such as the eagle and people. I didn't use any different compositional arrangements before producing the final work. My final media was produced in brown paper. My art work was two dimensional. I was happy with my final work because it represented a story, was colorful and I had fun doing it. I enjoyed the project because I got to kind of experience something like what the Native Indians did and it was fun. None of my art skills have improved yet. A new skill that I learned was mixing colors and by having a color be dark in a drawing and then having a part of it light. To have improved my artwork I could have mixed in different colors inside of the eagle instead of making it all brown.
*cave art was created a long time ago
*it is still found today on rocks
*shows something that was important to the Indians
*the drawings aren't all together in a line
*mixed in colors
*having a color be dark and light
*we still don't know all of the meanings to the Native Indians symbols
